Abstract

The main aim of this work is to investigate and optimize the process variables related to the flexural strength properties of UHMWPE and p-Aramid based hybrid composite. In this work, an optimization of processing parameters of compression molding of hybrid composite has been carried out employing surface response methodology (RSM). A three level Box-Behnken design was employed based on the process parameters pressure (X1), temperature (X2) and time (X3) as the independent variables with the optimization based on flexural strength. Regression equation has been obtained to analyze flexural strength and the optimum parameters were identified. The results obtained in flexural test showed the optimized process variable derived by RSM were 145.16 kg/cm2 for pressure, 119.59 0C for temperature and 12.68 minutes for time. The best flexural property were observed if the composite panel is manufactured at optimized processing conditions. The actual values of flexural strength are in good agreement with the predicted values.
